Showroom Sales Consultant 

$20+/hour + commission opportunities (based on experience) | Full-time | On-Site

Nelson’s HomeTowne Recreation is hiring a salesperson to join our family-owned business. We help families across southern Wisconsin enjoy their homes with pools, hot tubs, saunas, massage chairs, and recreation products.

Our approximately 18,900-square-foot showroom gives customers room to explore their options—and gives you the opportunity to build relationships through knowledgeable, personal service.

What you will do

• Welcome showroom customers, understand their needs, and help them choose products that fit their homes and budgets.
• Explain product features, ownership requirements, and available options clearly.
• Prepare accurate quotes, follow up with prospects, and close sales.
• Work toward agreed sales and gross-profit goals.
• Document customer conversations, quotes, and commitments in our business system.
• Coordinate with dispatch, delivery, and installation teams so customers receive what was promised.
• Maintain an inviting showroom and support the team during busy periods.

What we are looking for

• Successful experience in customer-focused sales, especially larger purchases that require consultation and follow-up.
• Strong listening skills and confidence explaining products and asking for the sale.
• Organization, dependable attendance, and consistent follow-through.
• Comfort learning product details and using computer systems.
• Availability for Saturday/Sunday coverage and seasonal business demands.

Experience selling pools, hot tubs, furniture, appliances, RVs, vehicles, equipment, or home improvements could be a strong fit. Pool and spa experience is welcome, but we also want to hear from accomplished salespeople ready to learn a new product category.

Compensation

$20 + per hour, depending on relevant sales experience, plus sales commissions. Your earnings grow with successful sales under our written commission plan.

General Manager

Base Salary $95,000 –  $115,000 + Performance Bonus (based on experience) | Full-time | On Site

Base salary: $95,000–$115,000, based on experience. Performance bonus: target of 15% of base pay, based on established goals. Annual cash compensation at target: $109,250–$132,250. Bonus payout depends on results under the written plan.

About the opportunity

Nelson’s HomeTowne Recreation is a family-owned pool, spa, and recreation company serving southern Wisconsin. Our approximately 18,900-square-foot showroom supports a business spanning retail sales, pool construction and renovation, service, deliveries, and hockey equipment.

We are seeking an experienced General Manager to lead daily operations, strengthen execution across departments, and develop our team. This position reports to ownership and works closely with our CFO and developing family leadership. The owners remain involved in business direction, including remotely; the General Manager provides consistent on-site leadership.

Responsibilities

• Direct daily priorities, staffing coverage, and coordination across retail, dispatch, service, construction, and deliveries.
• Coach employees, establish clear expectations, address performance issues, and lead recruiting and training within owner-approved authority.
• Ensure customer commitments, open work, parts requirements, and job documentation are tracked through completion and billing handoff.
• Partner with the CFO on budgets, margins, labor efficiency, inventory, and operating results; the CFO retains accounting and financial controls.
• Improve workflows, resolve routine customer concerns, and escalate owner-level decisions promptly.
• Develop department leaders and backups, support family succession, and provide weekly operating reports.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated success in managing employees and daily operations in a business that combines customer service with field work, installations, or deliveries.
• Ability to interpret operating reports and turn findings into practical action.
• Strong organization, communication, customer-resolution skills, and consistent follow-through.
• Comfort with business software and Microsoft 365; EVOSUS experience is helpful.
• Pool/spa, home services, construction services, landscaping, or equipment dealership experience preferred. Equivalent relevant management experience is welcome.

Year-round, on-site position. Schedule flexibility is required during seasonal peaks, including some Saturdays. Start date to be agreed; we are recruiting now.

Service Technician / Technician Trainee

$22 – $30+ per hour, depending on experience | Full-time, year-round

Nelson’s HomeTowne Recreation is looking for a dependable, mechanically inclined person who wants to learn a skilled trade and develop into an independent service technician. Pool or hot tub experience is not required. We will train the right person.

This could be a great fit if you have experience or an interest in:

• Mechanical or equipment repair
• HVAC, plumbing, or electrical work
• Automotive or small-engine repair
• Construction or building maintenance
• Appliance repair
• Troubleshooting and figuring out how things work

What you’ll learn and do

You’ll initially work alongside experienced team members, learning pool and spa equipment, pumps, filters, heaters, plumbing, automation, water systems, and seasonal service. Our goal is to train you to eventually diagnose problems and handle service calls independently.

We’re looking for someone who:

• Shows up reliably and on time
• Enjoys hands-on work and problem-solving
• Is comfortable working outdoors
• Can communicate professionally with customers
• Can learn to diagnose problems rather than simply replace parts

Nelson’s HomeTowne Recreation is looking for a few part-time team members who know and love hockey.

If you know the difference between Bauer and CCM, understand sticks, skates, and protective equipment, and enjoy helping players and parents, we’d like to talk to you. This could be a great fit for a high school or college student, a hockey parent, a coach, a player, or anyone with strong hockey knowledge and weekend availability.

Hockey will be your primary focus, but you’ll also learn other areas of our retail store and help customers with products such as darts, game room equipment, and pool and spa care.

What You’ll Do

• Help customers choose hockey equipment
• Help players and families find the right gear and fit
• Provide skate sharpening using our professional Sparx machines
• Keep the hockey department organized and stocked
• Assist with incoming merchandise
• Learn about the products we carry
• Assist customers in other areas of the retail store as needed
• Learn to perform computerized pool and spa water testing

What We’re Looking For

• Knowledge of hockey equipment and experience playing, coaching, parenting a player, or being involved with the sport
• Friendly and comfortable talking with players, parents, and other customers
• Dependable, helpful, and willing to learn
• Available for some weekday evening and weekend shifts
• Reliable weekend availability

Retail experience isn’t necessary. Hockey knowledge, dependability, and a good attitude are much more important—we’ll teach you the rest.

We’re looking for two to three part-time team members so evening and weekend hours can be shared around school, activities, hockey schedules, and other commitments.

Pool and Spa Maintenance Technician

Starting at $20/hour | Full-time, year-round

Nelson’s HomeTowne Recreation is looking for a dependable Pool & Spa Maintenance Technician to join our team.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working independently, being outdoors, and seeing the results of their work each day. During the pool season, you’ll travel to customers’ homes in a company vehicle to keep their pools and spas clean, properly balanced, and ready to enjoy. During the off-season, you may also assist customers in our retail store and at our in-store water testing station.

What you’ll do:

• Perform routine swimming pool and spa cleaning and maintenance
  • Vacuum pools and clean pool and spa surfaces
  • Test and adjust water chemistry
  • Deliver chemicals and other supplies
  • Log each service visit using a phone or tablet
  • Communicate professionally with homeowners and report service details to the Service Manager
  • Safely handle and transport chemicals, salt, and other supplies
  • Assist customers in the retail store and at the water testing station during the off-season

What we’re looking for:

• Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Able to work independently and manage a daily service route
  • Comfortable using a phone or tablet to document service visits
  • Dependable, detail-oriented, and professional with customers
  • Basic knowledge of water chemistry is helpful but not required—we’ll provide paid training for the right person
